Accreditation for L3 BCATS Programme of Study

Level 3 Unit Standards

The New Zealand Certificates in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills (BCATS) Level 1 to 3 have replaced the now-expired Level 1 and 2 National Certificates.

Schools wanting to award any New Zealand Certificate must be accredited by NZQA for an approved Programme of Study.

(Note that qualifications and Programmes of Study must be a minimum of 40 credits to meet qualification listing rules. You do not need to get accreditation if you are offering a smaller selection of unit standards and do not plan to award the qualification.)

How to apply for accreditation

To assist schools to gain accreditation to be able to award the qualification, BCITO has developed and gained NZQA approval for Programmes of Study leading towards the:

  1. New Zealand Certificate in BCATS (Level 2) (ID: 126815 – 1)
  2. New Zealand Certificate in BCATS (Level 3) (ID: 126206 – 1)

NZQA has advised that your NZQA School Relationship Manager is the best person to advise you on how to apply for accreditation.

BCITO has not developed a Programme of Study for the New Zealand Certificate in BCATS (Level 1). This is because the Programme of Study would require non-BCATS unit standards and each school will need to decide which ones they will use.
